Moments of Magic: Favourite places and things of the Dyfi Valley

Art Caravan is project I organised with support from Articulture as part of their Moments of Magic series of commissioned pop-up art events during Machynlleth Comedy Festival 2019. I hope it to grow and reappear in new ways in the future.

Celebrating the magic in the environment around us, this exhibition will include many postcard-sized works of art made in response to places and things we love in the area. Exhibiting the work in a unique venue of a two-berth caravan, we are evoking holidays and nostalgia, with the viewer able to experience the artwork within a domestic interior, and even discover art inside cupboards in a twist of indoor and outdoor.

Julie Jones and a group of local artists have built up a new collection of postcard sized art, capturing moments spent outside or inside celebrating the magic of places and the everyday in Mach and surrounds, in a range of media. Some respond to the drama in the hills, rivers and weather around us, or icons like the clock tower, wheras others may represent a tiny vegetable growing somewhere in Machynlleth. The familiar made unfamiliar.

The whole caravan is to be installed inside the Tannery space at MOMA Wales, Machynlleth during Machynlleth Comedy festival between 3rd-5th May 2019.There are opportunities on Saturday and Sunday afternoons to participate by making your own postcard to take away or even leave for another to write!
This commission is part of Moments of Magic and part of Machynlleth Comedy Festival 2019.

It is funded by the Arts Council of Wales via Machynlleth Comedy Festival and co-ordinated by Articulture.

Guest artists in the exhibition are: Julie Jones, Amy Grandvionet, Zena Wilmot, Grainee Murphy, Nicky Arscott, Gabi Ashton, Ian Rothwell, Jonathon Gross, Helen Ingham, Julie Brominicks, Phil Wheeler, CAT Volunteers Art Group (Ian, Doug, Yves, Hattie, Amy & Guests), Annabel Cooper, Julia Wallond, and Louise Smith.

Eiliadau Hudolus: Hoff lefydd a phethau Dyffryn Dyfi

Bydd yr arddangosfa hon, sy’n dathlu hud yr amgylchedd o’n cwmpas, yn cynnwys gweithiau celf maint cerdyn post a grewyd mewn ymateb i lefydd a phethau a gerir gennym yn yr ardal. Drwy arddangos y gwaith mewn lleoliad unigryw, sef carafan dau wely, rydym yn ceisio cyfleu gwyliau a hiraeth. Gall y rhai sy’n dod i’w gweld brofi’r gwaith celf mewn amgylchedd domestig, gan hyd yn oed ddarganfod celf y tu fewn y gypyrddau mewn plethiad o elfennau mewnol ac allanol.

Mae Julie Jones a grŵp o artistiaid lleol wedi creu casgliad newydd o gelf aml-gyfrwng maint cerdyn post, sy’n dal eiliadau arbennig a dreuliwyd yn yr awyr agored neu dan do, i ddathlu hud y llefydd a bywyd pob dydd ym Machynlleth a’r cyffiniau. Mae rhai yn ymateb i’r ddrama yn y bryniau a’r afonydd a’r tywydd o’n cwmpas, neu eiconau lleol fel tŵr y cloc, tra bod eraill yn cynrychioli llysieuyn bychan sy’n tyfu rhywle ym Machynlleth. Troi’r cyfarwydd yn anghyfarwydd.

Bydd y garafán yn cael ei gosod y tu mewn i’r Tanerdy ym MOMA Cymru, Machynlleth yn ystod Gŵyl Gomedi Machynlleth 2019. Bydd cyfle prynhawn Sadwrn a phrynhawn Sul i gymryd rhan drwy greu eich cerdyn post eich hun i fynd adre gyda chi – neu gadewch ef yma i rywun arall ei ysgrifennu!

Mae’r comisiwn hwn yn rhan o Eiliadau Hudolus ac o Ŵyl Gomedi Machynlleth 2019. Fe’i hariennir gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru drwy Ŵyl Gomedi Machynlleth ac fe’i cydlynir gan Articulture.
